# A New Charm Tradition: Fort Lupton’s Tomato Festival at Trapper Days

Earlier this month, Charm Industrial volunteers showed up bright and early on a lovely, sunny September Saturday to cover the Charm truck with banners, streamers, and flags, pack the cooler, and stock the truck bed with giant bags of candy. By 10am, the Charm float was off on its journey down Denver Ave, passing thousands of Trapper Days parade-goers who came from across Fort Lupton and beyond to celebrate this annual tradition.

Fort Lupton’s annual [Tomato Festival and Trapper Days](https://www.fortluptonco.gov/472/Tomato-Festival-Trapper-Days) has become a Charm tradition for our Colorado team. One of the oldest celebrations of Colorado heritage, Trapper Days originated in 1908 and was started by Mr. O.E. Frink, owner of the Silver State Canning Company, and featured free food, contests, tomato fights, and horse races. Eventually the community celebration transitioned to Trapper Days, and it now pays homage to Fort Lupton’s heritage as a fur trading fort, established in 1836. These days, Trapper Days includes a parade down Denver Avenue, a pancake breakfast, city tours, kids activities and more.

As official sponsors of the City of Fort Lupton, town events like Trapper Days are a great opportunity for Charm to introduce our mission to the community as well as show up as good neighbors and community members. Many Charm employees live in and around Fort Lupton;

We were extra grateful to Charm Pyrolyzer Operator Jesus Rodello who brought several family members, as well as Pyrolyzer Operator Christian Lima who brought along both human and canine family members.

In the afternoon, Charm set up an information booth at [Fort Lancaster](https://www.spvhs.org/luptons-fort.html), one of three City Tour locations set up for the afternoon. Visitors explored the Fort, visited booths and tables hosted by local businesses and nonprofits, and enjoyed performances by the Westernaires, Buffalo Soldiers Show, and more.

Charm is proud to participate in and support these community traditions and is grateful to all Charm volunteers who helped make it happen!
